The Plastic Problem
8. mars | AV PÅ(FYLL)™
We cannot recycle our way out of the plastic problem, the problem is simply too big for that. Therefore, we need to think anew and focus on new circular systems instead of just on symptoms.
We at På(fyll) are advocates for system change, both in terms of logistics systems and changing consumption patterns, which is absolutely necessary to reduce the amount of plastic waste. Annually, over 350 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated globally. Over 60% of it comes from consumer goods and packaging, and only 9% of plastic waste is recycled. In Norway, we are among those with the highest consumption of single-use plastic per inhabitant. Therefore, we must take action. Hence, we need more circular services.
Resources need to be utilized better
Today's value chains are designed in a way that produces enormous amounts of waste. It's time to shift focus from symptoms to systems. We see how this plastic all too often unfortunately ends up in the environment creating litter, a sad symptom of today's system. We believe it's now important to not be blinded by the symptoms, but to change the system. This is where we at På(fyll) come into the picture. "Plastic is fantastic" and if we use plastic correctly, it's true. When you order household products from På(fyll), you only buy the content and not the container the products are delivered in. You can return these to us and we ensure they are reused. In fact, it is so important to us that we do not sell these. We use the specially designed containers over and over again. In this way, we give value to plastic and make it important. We prevent it from becoming waste that tops up an already stressed waste system. For you, this means you have one less thing to worry about in everyday life, namely if you run out of products from Klar, OMO, Zalo or Lano. At the same time, you get help in reducing the amount of plastic waste at home. Smart, isn't it?
We need more circular services
For us to have a chance to reach the climate goals we have committed to by 2030, we need more circular services like På(fyll). The reason is simple: We cannot meet the future with today’s consumption of single-use plastic. We need to change the system and we need to make it easier for the general public to make environmentally friendly choices in everyday life. That's exactly what we at På(fyll) are working on. Beyond plastic waste, our circular value chain is also much less energy-intensive than recycling, which equals less CO2 emissions compared to buying the same goods in a store.
It's this easy to become a På(fyll) customer and thereby reduce the amount of plastic waste at home.
